After buying, bartering, or scavenging all our goods from thrift stores, the internet, and back alleys. We bring them back to the Lightning Works and grind away all the years of neglect to find the beautiful wood underneath. Once those gorgeous grains are revealed, we hook it up to a transformer and shoot it with 7000 volts of electricity!

The electricity flowing through the wood creates an effect called Lichtenberg art or “Fractal burning”. A unique pattern is burned into the wood making each piece one of a kind, never to be duplicated. It’s a complicated and very dangerous process and many safety measures need to be in place when dealing with this amount of electricity, but don’t worry we at the Lightning Works have a profound love and respect for controlled lightning and have taken all the necessary precautions to make sure we can keep doing this for a very long time. Once all the dangerous work is done, we splash on some vibrant water-based colours and durable finishes.
